Welcome to St. Christopher's
"Seeking God's Truth, Sharing God's Love"
Sunday, September 17, 2017
This Sunday is the 15th following Pentecost. Adult Sunday School with Rev. Madeline begins at 9 am. Join us for our contemplative Lectio-Divina reading of our Gospel for the day. We'll ask the question "What is the word inviting me to consider this week?" and share our insights into the text. No preparation necessary, only your willingness to share and listen!
Children's Sunday School begins at 9:30 am, followed by worship services and communion at 10 am.
Youth Acolyte Training following the 10:00 am service.
Youth in grades 6-12 are welcome to join us as we begin forming a youth Acolyte core to serve in worship. All abilities welcome! Please see Rev. Madeline for more information.
We meet in the Parish Hall after services for great conversation, delicious refreshments and fragrant coffee. Join us as we celebrate and begin a new week.
Reverend Madeline Shelton Hawley is our new rector.
Rev. Madeline was born in Galveston and raised in Oak Hill. She grew up at St. David's Episcopal Church, and received her call to ministry when a teenager.
She worked in Episcopal Campus ministry at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit in New Orleans before attending the Seminary of the Southwest. As a Curate at St. James' Episcopal Church in East Austin, she was the only full time staff member and priest as they underwent a Rector transition.
Rev. Madeline is married to the Rev. Christian Hawley, associate Rector at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. They have one dog, MacGyver, and two cats Minerva and Lafitte. She is passionate about art, especially ceramics, and the outdoors. Her current favorite hobby is taking Mac on long walks to look for minnows in the creek at St. Edwards park. She has also begun to explore the complex world of baking, thanks to the Great British Baking Show.
Helping Those in Need ...
During this, we are asking your prayers for the people, all God's Creatures, and all the land in Florida, along the Gulf coast, in the Caribbean, and in Malaysia. Also, remember all the areas where there are wildland fires and earthquakes.
And, remember the people who are helping with these huge storms, and fires, and earthquakes, including all First Responders, Police and Medical teams, RedCross Volunteers and Volunteers from many places and many organizations.
Meditation Class meets on Wednesday, September 20 at 5 pm
We meet each Wednesday in the Parish Hall at St. Christopher's at 5 pm. Our current series is "Back to Basics" or
"Is it really possible to learn to meditate?"
Regardless of how long any one has meditated, every meditation begins with the Basics. The better we are at the Basics, the better we are with our practice.
We have a wonderful group of mediators and we have a great time together. Our group is led by Mary Christopher who has more than 30 years practicing and teaching meditation. Everyone is Welcome ...
Prayer Needs ... ?
Please let the church office know if you or someone you know is in need of prayer. If you call after church hours, please leave a message and we will return your call when the office is open. 512-288-0128
